Dianne Grant-Smith nee Cheesman danced professionally for 6 years starting at the age of 17, first with PACT and later with CAPAB. In 2002 she graduated from Durham University in London with a B.Phil (Hons) in Studies of Dance. She has been the South African representative of the Executive Committee of the Royal Academy of Dance for whom she is also currently a grade examiner. She is a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town and has been teaching ballet for over 30 years. She managed her own private school for over 16 years and has since been the principal of the UCT Junior Ballet School. Over the years many of her students have gone on to dance professionally both nationally as well as internationally and over 100 of her students have graduated as dance teachers. In 2005 she founded the Cape Junior Ballet Company.
